Jane makes each piece by hand to be lived with and to last. Pure new wool is a hard-wearing, naturally resilient fibre, and with a little care your tartan will stay looking its best for years. Here's how to look after it.

Tartan cushions, Scottie Dogs & keyrings

These are all handmade from authentic 100% pure new wool tartan. Wool is naturally dirt and stain resistant, so most marks lift with minimal fuss.

For everyday care, a gentle brush or a shake outdoors keeps them fresh. For a spill or a mark, dab the spot with a clean, damp cloth and a little wool-safe detergent, working from the outside in, then let it dry naturally. Don't rub hard or soak the fabric.

Keep your pieces out of prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade any natural fibre over time, and away from damp. If a feather cushion pad loses its shape, a gentle plump and reshape brings it back.

Scarves & throws

Our scarves and throws are woven in the Scottish Borders from 100% lambswool, then finished by Jane. Lambswool is soft and warm but needs a gentler hand than the tartan pieces.

Hand wash in cool water with a wool-specific detergent, or use a specialist dry cleaner. Never machine wash or tumble dry. Press out excess water without wringing, then dry flat away from direct heat to hold the shape. A little pilling is normal with new lambswool and settles with use; a fabric comb or de-piller tidies it easily.

Storing your wool

Wool is best stored clean, cool and dry. Always clean a piece before putting it away for the season, as moths are drawn to natural marks and body oils rather than the wool itself. Fold rather than hang throws and scarves, and keep them somewhere with a little air. A cedar block or lavender sachet nearby is a natural moth deterrent.
