The Gordons rose to prominence in the northeast of Scotland, particularly in Aberdeenshire. A powerful clan with vast estates, they were influential in both politics and warfare, and their chiefs were made Earls and later Marquesses of Huntly. Their loyalty to the Crown was a defining feature of their history.
