The MacLeods, with branches of Harris and Lewis, were lords of vast island territories in the Hebrides. Renowned for their seafaring power, they maintained independence and influence long after many other clans were subdued. Dunvegan Castle, seat of the MacLeod chiefs, is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland.
