The MacRaes, often called the “shirt of mail” of the Mackenzies, were loyal allies and defenders of Eilean Donan Castle in Wester Ross. Their reputation as fierce warriors was matched by their steadfast loyalty, and they gained renown as a clan of soldiers, many serving in Highland regiments across the centuries.
