The Stewarts rose from High Stewards of Scotland to become its royal dynasty. With Robert II crowned in 1371, the Stewart kings ruled Scotland, and later Britain, for centuries. Numerous Stewart branches held lands across the Highlands and Lowlands, making them one of the most influential families in Scottish history.
